Extention and Community Association

The Sneads Ferry Extension and Community Association (ECA) is dedicated to working for our community. We meet the 3rd Thursday of the month at the Senior Center on Route 172, from 1pm to 3pm. A nice homemade lunch is provided by different club members each month.

Our main fundraisers are:

. New Cook Book with lots of new recipes
. Concession at the weekly Bingo at our Community Center.

Our group has adopted and cleaned a highway for 15 years and was recently recognized by the North Carolina Department of Transportation as the senior group of 23 Adopt-A-Highway groups in Sneads Ferry which “sets the pace and example for all the volunteers.”

The ECA also:

. Awards a scholarship to a deserving senior at Dixon High School
. Hosts a Christmas Party for the Special Needs classes at Dixon Elementary School
. Contributes toward purchasing books for the children.
. Gives a food package to a local needy family at Thanksgiving.
. Is called on to assist in County projects, such as:

. Providing food for the dedication of the new County Building on Route 258
. Working on the new kayak trail from Richlands to Jacksonville.

. Contributes to Waccamaw Boys and Girls Home and visit them each year.

. Provide cider and snacks at the Festival of Trees

The ECA, however, is not all work and no play. In addition to enjoying monthly fellowship at our meetings, we have taken many trips together.

. This year we joined with other ECA Clubs on a cruise to Grand Cayman Island,

. This year we will join with other ECA Clubs on a trip to New York City.

. One year all North Carolina Clubs made decorations for the Christmas tree at the Capital in Washington, DC, and went there for the tree-lighting ceremony.
. Once a year we plan an outing---going to plays, and local events such as:

. Mike’s Farm at Christmas

. Duplin Winery, and Thalian Hall.

. Plans are underway for an exciting happening this year.
